2023

West Coast IPA - Alley Kat Brewing

Citrus and sweet fruits compliment this hop prominent west coast IPA, with a 6.5% ABV. A beautiful burnished gold, slightly off-white head with a mild haze pours easy into a pint glass. This year’s Unity Brew uses a paper label and celebrates the environmental considerations of the industry as well as the brand new Alberta Ale Trail.

Riding the wild vibes of Alberta’s backyards, our small brewers are turning barley fields into epic brews that challenge the world’s best. With a sprinkle of creativity, a dash of passion, and all the groovy stuff in between, we bring you the 2023 Unity Brew. Alberta’s liquid gold anyone?

2022

Dry Hopped Lager - Medicine Hat Brew Co.

Using Krispy from Escarpment Labs, this year’s Unity Brew is a style we don’t usually have the time to commit to, but can! Aiming to demonstrate how craft/small brewers can brew something similar to the larger competitors on the market, our lager will hopefully take the place of what you or your parents drank in high school.

The small brewers of Alberta have united to create a lager, brewed with Kviek yeast and dry hopped with Eclipse, a newer varietal Australian hop. The Eclipse shine through with notes of citrus peels and pine needles.

2021

Session IPA - Grizzly Paw brewing Company

The Session IPA had a pale complexion, sweet, prominent, fruity hop aroma, (pineapple, passionfruit). Flavour was a bit green at the minute from the dry hop, but the beer presented notes of coconut and pine with some herbaceousness and unripe nectarine. Medium mouthfeel with pleasing bitterness.

2020

Scotch Ale - Canmore Brewing Company, Railyard Brewing, SYC Brewing Co, The O.T. Brewing Company, Village Brewery

The Scotch Ale was a malt-centered beer. Traditional, approachable and smooth. Five variations of this year’s Unity Brew were made by five breweries throughout the province. Similar in style and a base recipe, but unique versions presented by each brewer.
