About US

History

Incorporated in 2013, the Alberta Small Brewers Association (ASBA) was created by a group of likeminded brewers across the province who wanted better for the Alberta craft brewing industry. Since it’s inception ASBA has worked to educate member breweries, advocated for breweries and lobbied Provincial and Federal governments, among many other things.

ASBA also hosts an annual Craft Brewing Convention, offering an extensive trade show with diverse exhibitors along with education specific to industry and manufacturing roles. As well as the annual Alberta Beer Awards - recognizing the hard work of member breweries across the province!

Board of Directors

Brad Goddard - Chair

Brad has been working in the Canadian craft brewing scene since 2001 when he started on Steam Whistle Brewing’s bottling line downtown Toronto. Since 2013, he has held a number of different roles at Big Rock Brewery, most recently as Vice President of Innovation, Business Development, and Government Relations. Brad serves as Chair of ASBA (as well as Chair of ASBA’s Policy Committee), Chair of the Canadian Coalition of Independent Craft Brewers, Co-Chair of the CCBA’s Policy Committee, and Secretary of Cider Canada. Brad is a proud father of three kids, two cats, two hamster, two fish, one snail, and a dog named Snickers. He also volunteers for the Calgary Stampede Blacksmith Committee (just don’t ask him to shoe your horse).

Don McDonald - Vice-Chair

Don is the vice-chair of the Alberta Small Brewers Association. He has worked for one of the pioneers of the Alberta beer scene, Brewsters Brewing Company, since 1996 and is currently Director of Sales. In addition to loving his job in beer he also enjoy travelling with my wife and playing golf.

Lisa Watts

Lisa Watts is the Co-Founder, CEO, and Brewmaster at Hub Town Brewing, or as she likes to say, the "Jill of all things that need doing!" With a Chemical Engineering background and an early career as an Pipeline Integrity Specialist, Lisa transitioned into brewing by becoming certified in the Intensive Science and Engineering program with the American Brewers Guild in 2016. This set her on the path to creating award-winning beers and fostering a vibrant community around them.

Erin also co-founded the Hop Forward Society of Alberta in 2020 and continues to serve as the co-chair of its board of directors. Erin is passionate about the Craft Beer Industry in Alberta and to making the industry accessible and inclusive.

Dominique Lagloire-Galipeau

Dominique joined the craft beer movement and The Grizzly Paw Brewery in 2015 after a hotel career.  First as CFO, now as COO of The Grizzly Paw and board member of ASBA, she has been interested in promoting an industry that grows as part of its community.  Dominique has also been a member of the YWCA Bow Valley board until recently and enjoys all the goodies that the Canadian Rockies have to offer, in trail runners or on skis.

Kevin Danard

Kevin studied Landscape Architecture, took a detour into real estate lending for 12 years, and then brewed up a new venture by co-founding the Growlery Beer Co in 2018. He is happily married with two teenage kids and a doodle named Sunny. He loves beer, camping, hiking and spending time in the outdoors with family and friends.

Kaiden Vancuren

Kaiden is Co-owner, Chief Innovation Officer, and the brewery’s General Manager. He assists in all areas of the business including the brewing and sales process, the expansion strategy, and the “tasting team” (one of his favourite parts).
